May 21, 2023: CPSRAHi! I’m Alicia Wojciechowski, and I just recently graduated from Farmington High School where I spent the last three years rowing with the Farmington Girls Crew Team. This fall, I’m heading to Central Connecticut State University to study pre-nursing, and I’ll be rowing at Riverfront with their club program to stay in shape and keep competing.
I started rowing sophomore year, and even though my first season was off the water, I didn’t waste it. I trained hard every day on land and the erg, and by spring I earned a seat in the novice boat. That season sparked something in me, I loved how challenging it was and how it pushed me to keep improving. By junior year, I made it into the 1V, and by my senior fall season, I was placed in stroke seat, where I stayed through my final season. Being stroke taught me how to lead, stay calm under pressure, and keep the boat together, even on the toughest days.
What really hooked me on rowing is the adrenaline, that feeling right before the start, the burn during the middle of a race, and the high you get after crossing the finish line. I’ve always loved that intensity. I’m the kind of rower who’s constantly asking for feedback because I genuinely want to get better every time I’m in the boat. I care a lot about the people around me too, I’ve always tried to be a steady teammate, someone others can count on.
I know I’m not done with this sport. I’d love the chance to row at the collegiate level, whether that’s D1 or D2, and be part of a program where I can grow as both an athlete and a student. With nursing ahead, I know how to balance a heavy workload, stay organized, and keep showing up whether it’s for practice, school, or my teammates. I’m excited to keep pushing myself and hopefully earn a spot on a team that shares that same drive.
