I am a junior at the Hopkins School in New Heaven, CT and in my third year of rowing for the Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport, CT. I feel that rowing has not just strengthened me physically but has also strengthened me mentally by improving my focus and discipline. This has been instrumental in helping me tackle the rigorous school curriculum and stay on track. It takes just as much mental focus and effort to properly set the boat and maintain good boat speed as it does to stay organized with school work and deadlines. I want to row for a college crew that brings their highest level of effort and focus to every practice, every erg test. I believe that the most important work doesn’t happen during the races, it happens in daily practice, when you push beyond your limits for the girls around you and they push hard for you. Likewise, I believe that the same work ethic applies to my work in the classroom. I love being challenged both on the water and at school, so I would like to find a college program where I will be held to the highest standards both by my teammates and by my classmates, a program that will help me reach my highest potential as a rower and as a student.
