Hi there! My name is Makayla Medrano and I'm in the class of 2029. I began rowing in my 7th grade year. I knew right when I stepped in that boat and took that first stroke that this was the sport that I was truly passionate about. I am not only passionate in the boat but in the classroom. I find education is very important to me so I have always had a dream of going to a school that not only has one of the best education programs but a competitive rowing team. I find myself to be a good candidate for any rowing team because I strive to communicate and befriend my teammates. In my opinion if you do not have a good connection with your teammates, you’re not really a team. Let’s say you're rowing a four or an eight, if you're not all one you might as well be rowing your own boat. You only get truly better if you give it your all, I would never have gotten to where I am now if I gave a little amount of effort. Even though I am in eighth grade, through my hard work and dedication I have moved up and competed with the high school team since I was in seventh grade and will continue to do so. This opportunity has allowed me to train and interact with other rowers older than me. One of the most important characteristics one can have is respect, something you don’t see as much today. As I am competitive on the water, I also like to be competitive in the classroom. I have been top of my class many years in a row and I strive to continue on this excellence. I can’t wait to train and practice these next few year and get to my maximum potential.
