My name is Kyra Madai and I have been rowing for 10 months and have become very passionate about the sport. Practices, regattas, and the team camaraderie are highlights of my day that I always look forward to. I continue to improve every practice, both in speed and technique. I've raced in 4's and 8's, recently winning a bronze medal in the 2V8 boat at the Florida States regatta and qualified for and competed in Regionals. I am continually striving to lower My 2K erg time which improves with every test including a 15 second improvement from last month to this month and I am within reach of hitting a milestone goal of 8 minutes within the next month or two with a future goal of reaching 7:30 to 7:45 by next season. As a two-year state freestyle swimmer for Windermere Preparatory School I learned about proper exercise, diet, and how to compete and have brought all of these skills to my current rowing career. I am currently rowing for Orlando Area Rowing Society (OARS) under coach JonMichael Francis and Emily Goldsmith and am volunteering over the summer with OARS in the “Learn to Row” camps and have spent time in the coxswain position which has been very beneficial. I am in the 2023 graduating class maintaining a top GPA in Honors courses and will be taking dual enrollment courses my senior year through Valencia College in Orlando FL.
