Personal Statement

As a junior and varsity rower I have learned a lot about myself and the recruiting process, and I know that this is a sport I would like to continue in college. As a freshman I rowed in a lightweight 4+. We placed 4th at states by .2 of a second, but then went on to be the fastest in the region and 9th fastest in the country. I have never felt so much love and determination to succeed at a sport as I do for rowing. The possibilities in this sport are endless, and rowing gives me a chance to push myself beyond a point of discomfort until I am numb. I find strength in myself I never could have imagined that I had. I am willing to go to any lengths for the other people in my boat, but most of all I will never feel satisfied. I know I can always improve even my best times, and I stay hungry for more after each erg piece. I enjoy pushing myself, and seeing my dreams and goals become reality. Rowing is a sport that I am passionate about and want to pursue in college and beyond. What I feel sets me apart from other student athletes is my rigorous academic courses, as well as the 420+ hours of community service I completed by working with disabled children in a water sports camp. I am a very self disciplined person who thrives under a tight schedule, and I feel this makes me a good fit for any competitive collegiate rowing program. This year I am currently rowing in the Women's Varsity 8+, and the Women's Lightweight 4+. I am continuing to stay focused on my goals in school, rowing, and service while prepping for the SAT and ACT. My goal is to stay level headed and on a path towards the college that is the best fit for me.
