Hi! My name is Cecilia Fowler and I row for New Trier High School. After being a committed soccer player for nearly my entire life, I decided to try out rowing the summer before my Freshman year. My initial interest in the sport was sparked by my Dad’s experience in highschool and college, and rowing has only helped our relationship grow. From the moment I sat in a boat I knew my soccer days were over, and I’ve loved every second of it since then. Aside from the fact that I’ve met some of my closest friends through rowing, the sport has allowed me to grow as a person and build a level of confidence and mental toughness that I never had previously.
Although I consistently rowed stroke seat the entirety of my freshman year, my first two seasons on varsity allowed me to row in every other seat in the 2V boat, growing my love and appreciation while experiencing how the boat feels based on your seat. One of the major reasons why rowing is so interesting to me is the importance of working together as a team in unison, encouraging a team dynamic you can’t find anywhere else. Every girl on your team has the same goals and ambitions, which only drives others to push harder and improve themselves. In college I hope to not only row, but build relationships with girls who share the same love and passion for rowing as I do.
