Hello! My name is Kiana Worobey and I am from a small town called Banff in Alberta, Canada. I have just recently joined rowing and instantly fallen in love with it. Before rowing, I was a competitive swimmer for eight years, training nine sessions per week. Swimming taught me many valuable lessons that I have found transferred to other areas of my life such as school and rowing. With over 18 hours per week spent training, I have grown accustomed to not having very many hours left in the day to do homework and as a result, I have had to have efficient time management in order to achieve acceptable grades and success with swimming. Time management also comes with a work ethic which is another lesson that I have acquired from spending all those countless hours in the pool training towards getting to where I wanted. In swimming, the highest level I have competed at is the Canadian Western Championships as well as many Alberta Championships.
Although I am grateful for everything swimming has given me, as soon as I began rowing, I knew this was something I would be a lot more passionate about and would work a lot harder for. The environment was unimaginably accepting and caring. As well, the sport has been a new challenge that I am determined to master. So far this past year I have had experience rowing in eights, fours, quads, doubles, pairs, but mostly singles. Because I have had a lot more experience in singles I have found that my sculling is significantly better than my sweeping although I am committed to improving this season as soon as we get back on the water. I have also had experience rowing both port and starboard although port has proven to be my stronger side to row on. My 7:26.6 2k time was pulled only three months after learning to row on water and only my second or third time on the erg.
I am hoping to achieve a scholarship to a school that supports both my athletic and academic goals. I have always dreamt of competing at a collegiate level and becoming a student-athlete and I am more willing than ever to put in more work than is required to get to where I want. Academically, I have intended to complete an undergraduate degree in kinesiology and eventually potentially pursuing a career in medicine.
Thank you for reading about me, I am looking forward to whatever the future holds for me!
