From the first time I went out onto the water, I knew rowing was what I wanted to do. And the funny thing is, I was always meant to do it. With an uncle who rowed collegiality and currently makes a living coaching youth rowers, my parents were given the talk long ago that I was 'destined' to become a rower. Despite my 5'4" frame, I can do anything my teammates can do and more, except maybe maintain contact with the boat when we go "up and over head." My teammates are one of the reasons why it's all worth it. Both on and off the water, I know that I am being supported and cheered on, and in turn, my teammates know that I'm rooting for them just as fiercely. Something I value is the sportsmanship necessary for crew because you are never just pulling for yourself, but the whole boat, something I know is essential for any and every team that I am on. Rowing has already opened up so many opportunities for me, including going to Youth Nationals as a sophomore in high school and being able to row everything from an eight to a pair. I never want this chapter of my life to end. I want to row in college and bring passion, a positive attitude, and even some "hardware" wherever I go. I want my love for rowing to evolve, as I, myself evolve too. And one day, I want to inspire girls, no matter their size, to row and get out onto the water and try something new. I know that wherever I end up, I will be able to prosper as both a student and athlete with immense gratitude and unwavering focus.
