My name is Caroline Osborne. I am a junior in high school. I am currently the boys varsity coxswain, a position I have held for the last two seasons. Before becoming a coxswain I rowed as a freshman. Rowing is an amazing sport that I would love to continue in college. Rowing is something I've wanted to do since I moved to New Jersey in 4th grade. I was not able to participate in the youth club and had to wait till high school. I fell in love with it... I started off rowing in a girls 4+ boat freshman year. We won Counties that year. Sophomore year, I was asked to be the boys coxswain. I was also an alternate on the the girls 4+ boat. I am currently the head coxswain for our program. Unfortunately, I was injured during fall crew and am not able to be an alternate for the girls this season. I am still the boys varsity coxswain though.
Why I love being a coxswain. Personally I like the responsibility of being in charge of the boat and being the brains in the boat. I enjoy the challenge of planning out a race or a practice and encouraging my rowers to have the best overall outcome of a race. I would like to think that I rise to the challenges and help my rowers over come any obstacles we face.
When in college I plan on pursuing a degree in medicine. I have wanted to be a doctor since I was a little kid. I am interested in pursuing a career as a neurosurgeon or a sports medicine doctor. I am currently in a biomedical science stem program at my high school. I would also love to continue with my rowing career as it has a large impact on my life and is something I am very passionate about. Crew is a very impactful sport and has helped me become the person I am today and I would love to continue working to improve myself in the sport through out college.
