I had never really participated in competitive sports until I discovered rowing. My parents suggested I try a learn to row camp when I was in middle school with my current club. I had such a great time and loved it so much that I decided to join the team after entering high school. Until the age of 15, my main form of athletics was in martial arts which I began at the age of 5. While I no longer actively train, I owe much of my focus, determination, and persistence to my my training in Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.
In the Fall of my freshman year, I joined my school's volleyball team. I enjoyed volleyball, but once I started rowing in the winter, that became my athletic focus. Since joining my team 3 years ago, crew has become one of the most important parts of my life. It changed my life in so many ways for which I am extremely grateful. Not only have I become a stronger and faster rower over the years, I have also built great relationships with my teammates and coaches, and have celebrated monumental accomplishments and made great memories with my team.
I am extremely proud to row for a public high school team. While our team is small in numbers, together we have proven that our program can compete and keep up with with the best private school and club teams in the nation. When I'm on the water, I give 100% to succeed and have fun. Despite early morning practices, bad/cold weather, and blisters, the effort and sacrifice are worth it. As my love for the sport continues to grow, I hope I can continue to do so for years to come at the collegiate level.
