My name is Georgia Hefferon. I am 16 years old and I am in my junior year at Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, New Jersey. I am lucky enough to row for the Ridgewood High School crew team during the spring season, and for Nereid Boat Club and Maroon Blades for the fall and summer seasons, both under the guidance of Coach Boris Roque Alvarez. During the winter off-season I weight train with a personal trainer and on my own, as well as attend weekly erg sessions with Coach Alvarez. Throughout my rowing career I have sculled and swept, and competed successfully in both. I am 5'8" and weigh 130lbs and do my very best to stay in shape throughout the year. I take my academics very seriously as well. I am currently taking several honors and AP classes and I am performing very well in all of my classes. I am scheduled to take the the SATs in November 2015, and the ACT’s in the Spring of 2016. I am working very diligently in preparation for the tests.
I have many other interests in addition to rowing, including dancing and hiking. In my freshman year I applied to and was accepted into the Advanced Leadership Peer Support Program (ALPS) at Ridgewood High School. It is a challenging application and acceptance into the program is very selective! I have worked very hard to maintain my status in the club and have enjoyed challenging myself and discovering more about myself during our many hikes and trips. To remain an active member in ALPS, students are required to attend monthly meetings, attend overnight field experiences which include rigorous (but fun) outdoor hikes! As members we are considered peer leaders and expected to serve as leaders in the RHS and Village of Ridgewood Community. I have also been a competitive Irish Step dancer since the age of four and continue to take a weekly class.
I would very much like to attend a College or University where I can challenge myself both academically and in the sport of rowing. I know that I would be a strong asset to any school's academic or athletic program because of my hard work and dedication. Rowing is a major aspect of my life and it has taught me the importance of commitment, and has helped me grow as a person and as an athlete, thanks to the support of my coaches, family and friends. Over the past three years I have put forth my very best efforts into every aspect of practice and racing, and have seen great improvements in my results, which I hope to continue throughout my high school and college years. I am very hardworking and rarely miss an opportunity to improve my abilities. My coaches and teachers consistently approach me to let me know of my continued improvement on and off the water, and in the classroom.
I believe in giving my very best in everything I do and look forward to contributing my efforts at the college level. I appreciate your interest in me and hope that you see me as a future member of your team.
