Personal Statement

Hi, I'm Divya Loganathan! I joined crew in my freshman year of high school as a rower. The second I took my first stroke, I knew this was the sport for me. Rowing fascinated me in every way, but I was most interested in the art of coxing. I found it amazing how a single person could bring 8 completely different people together on the same page. It requires leadership, teamwork, and discipline to be able to cox a boat and I see myself as someone who shines through those qualities. I’ve been coxing for almost 2 years now, and I look forward to getting recruited as a cox to continue this journey beyond high school. I stand out from other high school coxswains because I demonstrate my leadership and collaboration skills outside of rowing as well. I am a co-founder of a non-profit organization called Bells of Change (bellsofchange.org) which focuses on providing underprivileged girls and women with the menstrual products they need to combat the global issue of period poverty through Indian classical dance, Bharatanatyam. I also intern at Ready, Row USA, a livestream and podcast that connects the rowing community and expands the sport to people of color and other minorities. I even have my own Youtube channel in which I interview people on discovering their career path and finding their own unique profession (3DYouth). Overall, I look forward to getting recruited as a coxswain to pursue the sport throughout my college years. Thank you!
