Personal Statement
There's nothing better then that perfect steady state. The addicting feeling when the boat is weightless, the rhythm is smooth, and there's just one simultaneous thunk of the oars in the oarlocks . This unique sport really hooked my interest during my sophomore year of high school. I joined rowing the winter before the pandemic hit and as a result I learned how to row in a single. While less then ideal, learning to row a single has set up a strong foundation for my skills. I was able to learn the power, balance, technique, and rhythm needed to move the boat through the water. With this strong foundation, I improved quickly as a novice and made varsity team that year. With less then two years of rowing experience, I got the privilege to race at the Youth National Regatta my junior year. With only three years of rowing experience and no outstanding ergs scores, I appear very average on paper. I disappear within the sea of exceptional athletes. However the paper doesn't show the challenges and handwork I put into achieving the results on the water that I have now.
