I am entering my junior year at the academically competitive Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, TX. My sports career began as a competitive gymnast for seven years where I trained up to 25 hours a week. After a season ending injury, I decided to hang up my gymnastics grips and try new sports. I would always watch the rowers on Lake Woodlands, but did not have the time to try until I decided to leave the gymnastics world. I enrolled in the Learn to Row camp and fell in love with being on the water with a team and quickly joined the competitive team. I also began learning how to play golf. While learning golf was fun, I really enjoyed the team environment of crew.
My first year of rowing as a novice, we qualified for Youth Nationals in our U17 quad and then again the following year. When we aged out of U17 and into the U19 category, we knew we were a young crew and defied the odds and qualified for Youth Nationals and placed 4th in the Nation. Just missing the medal, my crew and I are so excited to go back again next year and compete again.
I will be actively working on improving my 2K erg time of 7:59 to enhance my on water performance. Additionally, I will continue to take academically challenging honors, AP and dual credit classes while maintaining my GPA. I'm very fortunate to attend a competitive high school and be involved with The Rowing Club of The Woodlands; they help me stay focused on my goals of continuing rowing in college and seeking a higher education at an esteemed university.
Outside of school and rowing, I have held part time jobs alongside my twin sister and have volunteered at many local events including: The Woodlands Marathon, Local Food Bank, and Adopt-A-Path. I will continue working hard to achieve my goals academically while volunteering and working part time over my next two years in high school. After I graduate from The Woodlands High School, I wish to attend an academically competitive university and row with a competitive collegiate team.
