Hi coaches! My name is Melissa Castrillon from Arlington, Virginia. I started crew my freshman year of high school and just immediately fell in love with the sport. Crew has physically and mentally challenged me as a student and as an athlete. The thing I love most about crew is being outside on the water experiencing breathtaking views with my teammates but also as building strong friendships with my boat and the entire team. I've also played soccer and volleyball growing up. While working hard on the water, I'm a hardworking student in the classroom. I have taken AP World History as a freshman and all intensified subject classes in 9th grade. In 10th grade I've taken intensified classes with of course the addition of AP courses. Now in 11th grade, I'm taking 3 AP courses and 1 Dual enrollment class as I'm also currently in French 5 and will be continuing to AP french next school year. To include, I also speak lots of Spanish and did immersion in elementary school. I'm currently working hard on the erg and on the water from the start and no approaching the end of the fall season with my club team OAR (One Arlington Rowing) and eager to get even faster during winter conditioning and being apart of the swim team this winter as well. I am a great candidate for your team because I'm a hard worker and motivated, always proving myself at practice (in a boat or on the erg). I'm a great teammate by supporting everyones goals and accomplishments. I am highly strung about crew and flexible with any changes during practice or even before a race. Crew has greatly impacted my life and I would love to continue making close friends and learning life lessons through this amazing sport.
