Before high school, I played volleyball for seven years and assumed that's what I would continue to do throughout high school. However, when I was cut from the team my freshman year, the situation forced me to reassess what I wanted to do athletic-wise for the next four years. I decided to try rowing because they were offering a free Learn-to-Row program and I instantly fell in love with the sport. I grew to love the pain and adrenaline that comes with the sport as well as the long-lasting friendships it has provided me. Rowing in college will allow me to continue not only my rowing journey but my passion for exercise in any form.
Apart from crew, I am involved in multiple extracurriculars, but the most meaningful to me is Science Olympiad. Last year, I was elected as a captain of the Science Olympiad Team as the only underclassman in the position. Having to not only participate in the club myself but also have to navigate the logistics of tournament planning has helped me develop an understanding of every stage of planning that goes into an activity. Involvement in Science Olympiad has also helped me realize that I want to pursue a biology degree in college.
This experience and many others along with my easily adaptable and outgoing personality make me a good candidate for collegiate rowing which is a very team-oriented venture.
