Hi, my name is Poppy Montgomery I’m a Senior and 17 years old. I was first introduced to rowing the summer of 2019 after I moved from the UK. I have three passports, so I'm very lucky!
For 4 years I've taken leading roles rowing (sweep, scull and bowing) a variety of boat classes at Pocock Rowing and now at Holy Names Academy in Seattle, WA. This is my fourth year racing competitively on the varsity High School team, and I won the coaches’ prize in Freshman year for most improved.
In my Sophomore year, I was selected from 60 athletes in our HS crew program to represent Holy Names at major races including Head of the Charles (securing our spot for 2022) and at US Youth Nationals placing 10th in the nation at U17 8+ (seat 7). In my Junior year, I ended up competing in a 4+ at the HOCR beating our previous year's Holy Names 4+ boat by over a minute and place 6th at US Nationals in 2V 8+ (seat 7).
As a Junior & Senior, we complete an even more comprehensive set of physical tests (see my athlete stats in the section below) to place us in boats for Head of the Charles in addition to matrix on water to find our fastest boats. I'll keep my PR's updated!
Throughout my life I’ve played a lot of sports including gymnastics (competing at state champs), netball, triathlons and snowboarding. However, rowing is my passion because I'm a highly focused, hard working, motivated athlete comfortable performing individually as well as part of the team. I like to train hard, and I love the competition. I'm excited for what's ahead and the progress I can make both in my challenging academic program of honors classes at Holy Names and in my daily crew and weight training schedule.
As I start to look ahead, I’m keen to find the college program that fits well with my competitive nature.
