Personal Statement
Throughout my life, I tried many different sports but could never find one that I was passionate about or particularly good at. I didn't like sports like swimming and gymnastics because I felt they were too individualistic for me, but I never had the coordination for team sports like basketball and soccer. Then, when I decided to give rowing a try, I finally found the sport that was the perfect fit for me. My hardworking nature allowed me to overcome my small size and be successful in the sport, and my ability to support my teammates got me promoted to team captain.
Just as I push myself on the water, I push myself equally as hard in the classroom. I am passionate about science and hope to major in biology and either go on to be a veterinarian or a nurse. I take classes in school that challenge me and always do my best to understand the class material. I think that rowing has taught me a lot about grit and how to work hard in school and all other aspects of my life, and it has made me grow much stronger not only physically, but mentally as well. It has taught me a lot about myself and about being there for others and I hope to continue the sport in college. I believe my drive and genuine concern for my teammates will make me an asset to any team.
