Personal Statement

Hi my name is Raylyn Laney and I play striker and left/right wing.  Currently I play for a soccer club “Albion SCV East Bay“, located in San Leandro, Ca.   I am a senior at Holy Names High School in Oakland, Ca. and there I am the Captain and the top scorer.

I have been playing soccer for 12 years and my love for the game as grown drastically.  In my free time I am always watching a soccer game.   When watching soccer games they provide me with moves and additional  things that I can work on to better myself.

Academically I put a lot of effort into my grades, I always maintain a gpa at 3.5 and higher.

I attend a college preparatory school which has prepared me for college academically.  I am a member of the  ambassadors at my school.  I am a part of the student body and I welcome all leadership opportunities.

  • Evaluated at West (NorCal) Girls Academic 50 ID Camp on 07/25/2022 by Coach Vasquez of New Mexico Highlands University Technical Abilities Dribbling - Quality with ball at both feet. Good in tight spaces, and makes good use of moves to beat defenders. Ball Control - Quality first touch in space, and controls the ball under pressure. Tactical Abilities - Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Physical Abilities - Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Strength - Did a good job handling challenges and played well shoulder-to-shoulder. Mental Abilities - 87 / 100 Competitiveness - Showed a strong desire to win and seems to enjoy the competition. Keep working hard! Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Coach's Comments Outstanding attitude and a pleasure to coach at camp. Raylyn brings energy and emotion to every session. She has a great knowledge of the game and doesn't shy from a challenge. Her awareness on the field and her ability to create space helps create opportunities for teammates. As a 2023 grad, she still has time to develop and has the potential to become an elite player. She has a bright soccer career ahead of her. The college level is much more fast pace so if you're close to the 18 or in the box don't be afraid to finish it Make sure to communicate with your teammates, don't be afraid to call for the ball or say make a run to lay the ball off to your teammates. The college level is non stop talking your teammates will communicate from the goalie all the way up to the forwards and vise versa.
