I first started playing soccer at the age of 4. It was just a sport my mom used to keep my act and have fun. The older I got and the more I kept playing the stronger my perspective grew. Now I understand it is my life, I cannot live without it and I would never choose to. Growing up with asthma, was tiring and difficult, so for some years, I didn’t play. I have been playing for a total of nine years. Over the years I have learned the value of the game, it isn’t just about winning or losing. It’s about making long-lasting memories and friendships, growth, and having fun. Soccer has taught me a lot about myself and strengthen my skills such as patience, communication, confidence, teamwork, speed, etc. I may not be the best player on it off the field, but I always give the best I can on and off of it. I’ve taught myself that being the best isn’t important, but the effort you give. Soccer is a big part of me, that I hope to continue to play in college and maybe after. This sport has taught me the importance of school, a person cannot be a student-athlete without being a student first. I’ve learned to value my learning in the classroom and give my best. I was never the best student, but I always tried to be more than average. I want to attend a 4-year university that challenges me in the classroom and on the field.
