I have been playing soccer since I was 5 and club soccer for the past 8 years. Although soccer is a team sport, I may have learned more about myself on the pitch than anywhere else in life. I am truly grateful for all the valuable life lessons I learned through the experience. As a teammate, a goalkeeper and a captain, I have been challenged through the trials and tribulations of the sport I love. Playing on a team is a big responsibility. I learned you are depended upon and held accountable. I learned that trusting each other and working together toward a common goal is essential for teamwork. I have been pushed to do my best and asked the same of others as well. As a team, I learned we win together and lose together and it’s not over until the referee blows the whistle.
As a Goalkeeper I have learned perseverance, determination and grit will get you farther than you ever dreamed. Being a keeper has physically and mentally challenged me in ways I never thought possible. Over the years, I have played in some extreme weather ranging from 0°F – 115°F, pouring rain, hailstorms, gale-force winds at the crack of dawn and late into the night. I have been collided into, pushed over, stepped on, kicked in the head, the face, the nose, and the mouth, punched in the stomach, scratched, and cleated. I've been screamed at by opposing players, their parents, and the referees. And through it all, I realized that having a thick skin and keeping my composure was the best way to react.
There have also been some unforgettable moments that I will always cherish like making some amazing saves, winning some tough games as the underdog, and achieving a D2 championship in High School. As Team Captain, I gained valuable leadership, communication, and listening skills. I learned that having a mutual respect for each other and for the game is critical for a team to succeed. Who knew that kicking a ball around a field would have taught me so much?
I am looking for a program that is a good fit for me academically as well as athletically. I am an honor roll student with aspirations to have a career in the sports industry. I know I have the skills and leadership abilities to contribute to your program and make your team successful. I am ready to compete at the highest level. I hope to hear from you soon
