In order to be a leader one has to see leadership in you. It started four years ago as a fluke. In the summer of 2017 my friend, Rhys and I tried out for volleyball and didn't make the team. So on our way to change classes, Coach Hernadez asked, “Where are you guys going? It's the 6th period.” ‘We replied “We’re going to switch classes” He asked. “Have you considered wrestling? If you don't like it you switch out” We agreed and we switched to wrestling. About a month later, my first wrestling match I won by a bye, and I cried. My next one was against a senior and I was a freshman. The match started and boom, I was pinned. I cried after that. I had another one and I won that, I also cried after that one. My family and team laughed at that but I say it builds character. After that I went to more tournaments. And I placed 6th in the city and had a decent record. That year I was voted most inspirational. As I climbed the ranks through the next year, I became very close with the other girls on the team. I was told I was an inspiration to the other girls and the boys. In the summer of my sophomore year after I placed 6th in the city again, I was chosen to wrestle and beat the streets and I won that tournament and then I got chosen to wrestle for the Los Angeles Wrestling Association. I got to team up with girls from other schools and made new friends. We wrestled in a tournament in Fresno. When school started again Beat the Streets had a program for young kids at San Pedro. So I would stay after school and help teach them. This leads to my junior year where I got even better. I was more determined with loss. I treated every loss as a learning experience. I was filled with more determination than ever. I ended up placing 2nd in city and being a state qualifier. Now I'm the girls team captain.
