My name is Ava McCormick. I am a center defensive midfielder but am flexible in terms of what position I can play. I have started on my high school varsity team since eighth grade where I then brought my team to the finals, scoring the winning left-footed goal against our rivals in the semi-finals. This was our first time winning against this team in five years. I have already been named captain for next year as a junior. My coaches say that my strengths are my work ethic, endurance, aggression, and movement off the ball. I received an All-Star New England Preparatory School Athletic Council award (NEPSAC) fall of my freshman year. I not only take pride in my athletics but am also a high-performing student. I have an unweighted 4.03 GPA while taking many honors and AP courses. I am one of few sophomores in both my Mandarin and Science classes. I received high honors, and Head of School distinction for my academic achievements with a four or five in effort for all of my classes. I am very involved in many activities and clubs at school. In addition to the soccer team, I also belong to the track team where I run the 1500 meter event. I am an avid advocate for sustainability at my school including through the school Eco-Club. In addition to the eco-club, I also belong to the Komera club where we discuss sexism in society and raise funds to send a girl in Rwanda to university. I have been taking piano lessons since I was three years old.
