My passion for soccer started with Cheez-Its. Delicious snacks at the end of every game was the highlight of my soccer career at 5 years old. Ten years later I still like Cheez-Its, but I love soccer.
Now that you know my favorite snack, how about I introduce myself. My name is Leah Kemp. Failing a national pandemic, I will walk in the graduation class of 2023.
My dad coached my first soccer team. No one wanted to play goalkeeper, so my dad made me play the position and I never stopped. Playing goalkeeper requires a certain mindset; some of my coaches call it crazy. My position has taught me to stay focused, take responsibility for my actions, and to work as a team.
Currently I play goalkeeper on Florida United DPL U19 girls. Initially playing 2 years above my age group, forced me to take on a new challenge.
Outside of soccer, I lead a creative life. As an active member of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, I use this time to give back to my community. My goal is to exceed 250 hours of community service before my graduating year. Scouts lays the foundation for me to build strong friendships and improve my leadership skills. Sewing is another creative outlet for me. With the pandemic, I used my skill to make face masks for local healthcare workers.
Currently my GPA is 3.5 as I'm in the middle of my junior year. My plan is to explore more demanding classes in my senior year. I look forward to Chinese, Forensic Science and World History Honors, where soccer can provide the foundation for the analytical skills needed. My goal is to continue to lead a balanced life where I pursue education, soccer and service.
