Aloha! My name is Kylena Paredes. I'm currently a Sophomore at Mid-Pacific Institute, a college preparatory school located in Honolulu, HI.
I started playing soccer at the age of 5, but I have always been around soccer since I was born since my mom was the Head coach of the Waipahu High School Girls Varsity soccer team for 14 years. I currently play for Arsenal FC Hawaii 07G. I also play on the Mid-Pacific Girls Varsity team Freshman and Sophomore year, starting both years. Although my Freshman season was cut short due to a rare knee injury requiring surgery, I was able to improve my game IQ and inspire my teammates. I was able to analyze the game from different perspectives and think about how I can apply the skills I've learned into my current game. I also learned how to be a supportive teammate and pick up my teammates when they were down. After 3 long months unable to walk, and 4 more months in physical therapy, I was excited to finally be able to get back on the field. It was difficult coming back to play after 7 months off, but after constant support and encouragement from my coaches, teammates, and family, I finally gained my confidence back. I was very excited to be able to play my Sophomore year at the varsity level this year. This year, I helped my team to win the Division 2 ILH Championship Title, an award that my school hasn't won since 2014. We also placed 5th in the HHSAA Tournament (High School State Championships). I had a total of 10 goals this season, along with 3 assists. My main positions include forward and center-mid, however I am knowledgeable in playing any position on the field including defense, wing, and goalkeeper. I am strong in both legs, making me a threat on both the right and left side of the field.
While I spend most of my time outside of school on soccer, I also enjoy playing pickleball, mountain biking, painting, and baking. I started playing pickleball at the age of 10. I am the Hawaii State Champion for the Junior Doubles, 4.5 Mixed Doubles 19+, 4.5 Women's Singles 19+, and 4.5 Women's Doubles 19+. I started mountain biking at the age of 5 as well. I am an avid mountain biker and have raced in races across the country and have conquered world famous trails like Downieville in California.
My love for sports and school have taught me how to balance my athletics and academics. I currently maintain a 3.81 GPA at Mid-Pacific. Throughout the years of playing sports, I look forward to playing collegiate soccer at the level that best fits me and that can push me to my fullest abilities. The variety of sports I participate in makes me diverse in skills and mindset and gives me the ability to adapt to any environment and circumstance.
