When I started playing soccer at six years old the coach would say that it wasn’t a complete practice until I had fallen down about a dozen times. At that age my enthusiasm for the game exceeded my body’s ability to keep up. My love of the game is as vibrant as ever, but my coordination has increased dramatically.
Soccer is an important part of who I am, but it does not define me. I am a STEM student in one of largest and most highly ranked high schools in the state of Illinois. (Lane Tech College Prep. Ranked #3 of 665. Enrollment of over 4,000.) I am an enthusiastic traveler. My family spent nearly a month in Australia and New Zealand this summer. I’d be happy to show the video summary of the trip I made.
I am a dedicated YMCA Camp counselor. For half of each day and all night at camp last summer I was responsible for a group of 10-year-old girls. For the other half of the day I worked one-on-one with a special-needs camper. He was an excitable young boy with a zest for life that we could all learn from. Both experiences were eye opening.
I love animals, especially my crazy dog, Cowboy. My dad vetoed my request for a sugar glider. Probably a good decision in retrospect.
I am interested in medicine. Maybe I will pursue a veterinary or medical degree. To prepare for these potential careers I have watched all episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Black and most of ER. More seriously, I have also watched all of Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet and Diagnosis with Lisa Sanders, M.D.
As I consider college and the possibility of continuing my soccer career, I am looking for a school that will present me with lots of varied opportunities and continue to challenge me academically.
