My name is Ava Degrand. I am a 2007 born, 2025 graduate who has been playing soccer since the age of 4. My near-term goal is to play high-quality varsity soccer at a college/university that will also provide me with an exemplary education. Career-wise, I currently aim to work in health care, specifically sports medicine. All of my various coaches who I have worked with in my team, my club, and at academy centres, have described me as an intelligent and quick athlete who is a team player at all times.
What separates me from other players is my strengths in 1v1’s, shooting with both feet and strong physical fitness and endurance. I recently attended RBC National Training Ground Testing for Potential Canadian Olympic athlete identification and my shuttle run test score (11.8) was in the top 2% of all u19 female athletes tested since the program began January 2016. I strongly value loyalty and have been at the same club for all 10 years I have been playing soccer. With Calgary Rangers, I have competed in tournaments across North America gaining valuable experience playing against a variety of teams. I participated in Whitecaps Academy Training Centre for two years and was named player of the month twice. I now am a part of the Vancouver Whitecaps Calgary Caps to College Program, which is a high-level program designed for players with aspirations to play varsity soccer.
Additionally, I have played many other sports competitively including tennis. I played tennis for nearly 10 years which culminated in me placing 19th in the Canadian National Championships in my last year of competing. This has allowed me to develop both composure and personal accountability on the soccer field. I am a very dedicated student and I work hard to gain knowledge in all subjects which has led to me receiving honours with distinction all throughout my time in junior high and my grade 9 GPA being 95%. Outside of school and sports, I enjoy being outside and spending time with my family and friends. I am willing to put in the work required in my academics, athletics and in my personal life to be successful as a varsity athlete.
