My name is Sarah, I am a student at Dixie Heights High school and I graduate in 2023. I am going into my fourth year of playing soccer for my high school and have been starting goalkeeper for junior varsity since the beginning of my 7th grade year and playing varsity since the end of my freshman year. I know it is very easy for someone to put their glory stories of how they won a big game but I think it is good to hear about the not so fortunate ones. It was my freshman year, 3rd to last game of the season when we played Notre Dame Academy. The game started off great but unfortunately about a quarter of the way in I had gotten hit hard in the leg by a player on a corner kick and after that I could barely hold my weight on it. I looked to my coach on the side lines tears in my eyes and knew that if I were to go out with no other goalkeeper to replace me the team would have no chance. I decided to stay in the game no matter how much I was hurting and played to the best of my ability, yes even though it was a loss for the Dixie Colonels that evening it was still a big win for me, I proved not only to myself but everyone there in the stands that I will not give up and I am a force to be reckoned with. In many ways people are the same but what is different about me is that I am the one everyone looks to for help, people feel comfortable with confiding in me, on the field I have the voice meaning I am the one that keeps the fire burning, I am not afraid to tell my team what they need to do while playing to give us the best chance of scoring, I am 100%, I don't give up in hard situations and I fight until the very end. I am open minded to new situations which allows me to be easily coach able as well and I will always listen to the coach but when we step on that field I am the leader, the one that brings the energy..
As I enter into the middle of my high school career I have had many people tell me to start planning for college and my first priority, as it always is, is keeping up a good grade and GPA of over a 4.0 so I can attend a college that suits me. I have always wanted to go into the medical field, preferably dentistry, for my love of science and understanding the human body. I am willing to go anywhere not to far from me to pursue my dreams of becoming a starting goalkeeper at the college level and have the career I have always wanted.
