I am Emily Coke, a Junior at Frederick Douglass High School. For the last three years, I have been honored to serve as a team captain for my high school team. My team has seen significant improvement during these first three years of the school's existence against a very difficult schedule. We won one game our first year, fifteen wins our second season and fourteen wins this past season. We advanced to the semi-finals of regions my Sophomore and Junior years. We lost 1-0 both times against the #1 Rated team in the 11th Region and both Ranked in the Top 5 in the State.
I believe my strongest qualities on the field are game awareness, passing, and leadership. I believe in team first !! My friends and teammates consider me fiercely loyal and I don't like to lose! I understand that improvement comes during practice therefore I spend a great deal of extra time attending private training. In addition to playing organized soccer, I have joined my high school track team so I can continue to improve on my off-season conditioning and speed. Over the last three years, I do strength and condition training 2-3 times per week with the team and my personal trainer. In addition to High School and Club soccer, I have done private soccer training at ID3 and Next Level. After much consideration, I have decided to work exclusively on my soccer training at GS Futbox with BJ Volpenhein in Lexington twice per week. BJ Volpenhein has been very successful developing soccer players' skills who desire to play in college. Many college players come back and train in the off season with him.
I am just as diligent about academics as I am soccer, I maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA while taking AP and Honors classes. I also, participate in multiple service opportunities such as the homeless shelter, Booker T Washington Dinner, packing meals for Haiti, multiple youth soccer camps, and much more. I have a strong desire and passion for the game. I love and I hope to further my playing career as a college athlete.
