Personal Statement
My name is Payton Kenny and I'm a student at Walton Verona HS. At the early age of 2, my parents put me into a local church soccer league and my love for soccer started. After years of recreational leagues, I joined a U10 select club soccer team at the age of 7. Life seemed fairly typical, until I had a seizure at soccer practice at the age of 8. Getting diagnosed with Epilepsy was a confusing, scary time for me. The next few years, I struggled in school and fell behind significantly in math and reading as I was acclimating to different medicines to control the seizures.
Although this was a very difficult time for me it was also a significant force that molded me into the person I am today. I have learned how to be a fighter and push through obstacles, and not feel sorry for myself or make excuses. Through these experiences I have learned to become a leader both on and off the field, as well as a supportive teammate, and an advocate for those with disabilities.
Over the past several years, my Epilepsy has been very well controlled and I have been playing high level club soccer as well as indoor soccer and futsal. My Freshmen year I started on the Varsity soccer team and have finished my third Varsity season this past year. I am taking college prep classes and my GPA is 3.8. I haven't completely made up my mind on my career, but I'm interested in Education/Nursing/Business.
I'm excited to play soccer at the college level and look forward to contributing to your team's success.
