My name is Leah "Katie" Smith and I a junior at C.E. Byrd High School. I have been playing soccer competitively for 9 years and this is my 3rd season on the varsity squad at C.E. Byrd. I am currently a member of the C.E. Byrd High School Lady Jacket Varsity Soccer Team, Shreveport United 03 Blue Team, and the 03-04 Louisiana ODP Team. My main position is outside defense, however I also play center back. I have been selected as "Defender of the Year" on my club team, "Most Improved Player" on my high school varsity team, and most recently was awarded honorable mention on the Louisiana All-District Team.
My goal is to play competitive collegiate soccer, while earning a degree in physical therapy. I would make a good candidate for a college soccer team for many reasons, the first being that I am fully committed to all of the hard work and training that goes along with being an athlete. Over the course of my high school career, I have learned that being a student athlete is a full time commitment that takes dedication and discipline. I have effectively learned how to balance my athletic schedule with academic schedule. I have a passion for soccer that has only grown over time. Another reason that I would make a good addition to a college soccer team is that I have know how to work well with others and I understand how important communication and teamwork is, both on and off of the field.
I am always striving to become a better student, a better athlete, and a better person. I do not believe there is a such thing as perfection. There is always work to do and I am dedicated to constantly trying to better myself in all areas of my life. Being a college athlete has been a long-term goal of mine and I am excited see what my athletic and academic future holds. I am eager to commit to a college that has faith in my athletic ability and will offer me the opportunity to further my athletic and academic goals.
