Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Sonia Moritz and I am a hardworking, committed, driven soccer player. I am currently playing at Elizabeth Seton high school as the starting goalkeeper for Varsity. I had 10 shutouts (5 in conference play) for my 2018-2019 season. I also play for a club team called FCGB COE. I have played soccer for 9 years and I have been playing goalkeeper for almost 5 years. I love the sport and the way you can express yourself on the field. Soccer allows me to work with others and compete. Soccer has helped me with life skills such as collaboration, dedication, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to different situations/environments. I am a tactical and technical player, I like to play from the back and I like to come out of my box when necessary.
Being a student-athlete taught me how to manage my time well. I try my hardest in school and I am proud of my grades. I am an honor roll student who is also dyslexic. Dyslexia has its challenges, however, I have amazing teachers who give me the support I need. Dyslexia does have some positive effects on my life as well. For example, I have excellent pattern recognition, peripheral vision, creativity, and able to see the big picture, all of which benefit the sport of soccer, as well as other endeavors. My dyslexia has taught me that anything is possible, hard work will get you results, managing time is important, and to stand up for yourself when you're struggling.
