2023 Highlights Personal Statement
My name is Riley Matthews and I have been playing soccer for 12 years. I currently play soccer on the Maryland United ECNL 07 team. My main position is attacking-mid. I can also play holding-mid, forward and wing.
I attend James M. Bennett High School as a sophomore. I am a starting forward on the varsity team. We are 2022 and 2023 Bayside Conference Champions. I was awarded to the 2nd All-State Team 2022 and 2023 and 1st Team Bayside South Conference 2022 and 2023. I was named 2nd Team Bayside South Conference my freshman year. My number is 7 with jersey colors of red or white. I am in the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, and have a 4.5 GPA.
When I am on the field my biggest strengths are my footwork, distributing/ playing through balls, speed, attacking towards goal, taking players on, goal scoring and agility. Throughout my years of playing soccer on different teams, I have been able to grow, and I develop playing possession and direct styles of soccer. I credit my footwork skills to my many years of playing futsal.
My proudest accomplishments are competing for a National Championship 2023, winning the Bayside Conference Championship 2022 and 2023, making 2nd Team All-State 2022 and 2023, and making 1st Team All-Conference 2022 and 2023.
When it comes to school, I am in the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, and have a 4.5 GPA.
