I have been playing soccer since I was five years old, and have always loved it. I've tried different sports over the years: track (I was a hurdler), competitive Ninja Warrior, and gymnastics. But I never fell in love with them the way I did with soccer. Over the years, I have played on lots of different types of teams including indoor rec leagues, town teams, club teams and high school. Some of those teams have been elite, and have done very well, but I learned the most about myself playing on the teams that struggled. I learned how to dig deep, tune out the noise and focus on controlling my own performance, no matter what was happening on the field. Although I have been told I am a talented player, I think it is these characteristics that make me a true athlete.
I am also an A student, and I participate in student council and other school activities. I am not really certain what my long term career goal will be, but I am looking forward to challenging myself academically in college, and exploring different paths. However, although I don't yet know exactly what I want to be when I grow up, I do know that I am and will always be an athlete, and I absolutely know that I want to keep playing soccer in college. I want the opportunity to bring what I have learned to a competitive college team. I want to be able to share my grit, my talent, a that sense of camaraderie that only comes from being part of a team working toward a common goal. And also just because I still love it, which is the best reason to play.
