Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Natalie Miller and I will be a senior this coming academic year at Imlay City H.S., located in Imlay City, MI.  Imlay City is a small town best known for the Valasic pickle processing factory.   I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old with AYSO until I reached the U-12 girls team.  I then moved on to a travel team which was the Lapeer Nationals which I played for from 2016 to 2018.  I had two really great coaches in Coach Bob and Coach Kenny.  I would have played for them again in 2019, but it seemed a lot for me to handle with school and  a cross country season along with travel soccer.

In the spring of 2019, I was selected as a freshman to play on the girls varsity team. I played in every game and started many of those games.  What helped me most was my conditioning with running cross country and playing basketball. Also, during the off season, my mom and I would go up to the high school soccer fields and I will practice my kicking and dribbling of the ball to get better for the upcoming season.  I also have a regulation net that I got for Christmas that I will also use to perfect my skills.  We also run in local 5 K races during the summer to keep up our fitness.

As for academics, I have been on the honor roll since middle school and since my freshmen year in high school.  I am currently taking upper level math courses and with the school year completed.  I  have already selected what courses I will be taking next year to include english, personal finance, and hopefully a pre-med. class through our school districts M-CAP program at EDTech. As a freshmen, I was all Bluewater Conference Academic Player.  The biggest challenge this upcoming season will be playing for a new coach since our old coach from last year decided to leave and go to another school.

In closing, in the past 4 years I have attended 8 soccer camps through Ryzer, Oakland University and EXACT Soccer.  My plans for 2021 is to attend at least 3 soccer camps to improve my skills and increase my chances to play college soccer.  Camps will include Ryzer Auburn Hills Camp, Ryzer GSVU Soccer Camp and the Oakland University ID camp.  Other camps are possible with time permitting.  Cross Country for ICHS begins in August which I plan to run again and achieve additional Personal Records and letter again.   I am hard working, a team player and very coachable which was identified during the EXACT Soccer Camp this past November.  I am an asset to any team of which I am a member.  My main goal is to play college soccer as well as pursue my academic goals of a career in the medical field.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

  • July 2021 Ryzer Grand Valley State University Elite ID Camp
  • 7/11/21 to 7/14/21
  • This camp had about 500 girls present during the sessions. Unfortunately, if you wanted to participate in a Skill Session it was an additional cost and it would have been nice to have it included in the price paid. The accommodations were awesome. We stayed in the Honors Dorm and I shared a quad room with 3 of my fellow teammates. Since GSVU has turf I wish I had brought my Turf Shoes because I myself getting caught and it hampered my play. There were other college coaches there, but they really did not provide feedback to the players. If I could go again next year I would, but I will be 18 and do not think I will be able to attend.

  • 6/06/21 to 6/06/21
  • Designed for high school soccer players that wanted to work with college coaches. Coaches in attendance included: SMU, University of Findlay, University of Toledo, , Western Michigan University and Ferris State University. I found the camp to be informational and I continue to learn more skills when I come to these camps.

  • This camp was for girls grades 8-12 at Oakland University by Coach Liming of Defiance College. Due to weather conditions there was only a small number of participants which was to the girls advantage. Each girl received a Skillset Overview and participated in skills and games through out the day from 8:15-5:00. Even though I did not know any of the girls on my team we played very well together, won all our games and were not scored upon. Some of the comments I received were as follows: Passing: Created opportunities with accurate passes and rarely over or under hitting the ball; Defending; Aggressive as a defender and seemed to really enjoy that. She had good footwork and positioning; Communication: Great communicator, organizes and directs teammates well, and communicates frequently; Defense: Understands team defensive schemes, shows understanding of positioning and angles; Endurance: Great Work rate throughout the camp this is where my cross country training came in handy. Speed: Great speed overall, in particular when running into space; Competitiveness: Showed a strong desire to win and seemed too enjoyed the competition. Coachable: Responds well to coaching , asked good questions and enjoyed the learning process. Finally, Natalie was a pleasure to work with during camp. Her speed and endurance made an impact in the games keeping her competitive. Her communication was effective and her teammates understood her directions. She took back feedback from the coaches and used them effectively during competition. She has time to continue to develop her skill and the potential to be an elite player.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ryzer Girls Soccer Camp
  • 10/16/20 to 10/16/20
  • This was a 3 hour camp put on through Grand Valley University and consisted of grades 8-12. There was a series of training exercises and finally teams were made and games were played. The camp in my opinion was fair just like the one in July and more instruction could have been given and a written assessment.

This was a 3 night session due to the heat with the boys and girls and separated except for the goalie training. Attendees were grades freshman thru senior with a few individuals that had all ready graduated and were attending college in the fall. Girls participated in fundamental skills through dynamic activities as well as games in a challenging and stimulating environment.

  • Oakland University Soccer Camp
  • 7/11/19 to 7/11/19

Evaluation and identification for players looking to continue to play in college. 2. Development including our entire women's soccer coaching staff including the head coach. 3. Unique mental training opportunities made available through the camp, both introductory and advanced. Finally all attendees completed a TAP assessment prior to attending.
