Since beginning to play soccer at five years old, I have had many influential figures in my life. Some of the most prominent people that have come and gone in my life are the coaches I have had the privilege to receive instruction from. The coaches I have had over the years have helped me become the player and teammate I am today. One of the most valuable lessons I have gained is that it is important to be a student-athlete. Players need to put forth a great amount of effort in their schoolwork before they begin to worry about the extracurriculars that they are a part of. This has helped me know where to keep my focus, as well as to be able to balance both school and sports. Over time, I have also learned that playing my best comes with a lot of practice and focus. I have found that I may not be able to master a skill on the first try, but, if I keep with it and continue to try, I can begin to get better and more efficient at the craft.
I also have had the chance of getting to play with multiple teams over the years, receiving different coaching and teammates. With getting to play for a variety of teams, I have learned to be flexible, open-minded, and the value of working together with teammates. Having the opportunity to get to play with a wide variety of girls and multiple teams has given me the possibility to see that no matter who you play with, it is key to play as one and work together. A team needs to work as a unit and keep each other at its best to be able to play well. It is also important to be able to be positive and encouraging towards your team members to keep them confident in themselves. I believe that the most important aspects of soccer are dedication and teamwork, as well as being able to balance good grades while participating in sports.
