Personal Statement
My name is Megan Barnhart and I have been playing soccer since I was five. Throughout the years I have played for a few club teams as well as my high school team. I am attending Watertown-Mayer High School in Watertown, Minnesota, and I currently play for Tonka United Soccer Club.
This year will be my first season playing for Tonka United, and I'll be playing left-back primarily. I'm extremely excited to be a part of this team, as we've been focusing on building out of the back and holding possession in these first months of practice. Our league season is set to begin in early May, and we have a number of showcases scheduled for this summer. We'll be competing in local tournaments before April 15th, but afterward, we're traveling to Indianapolis for the Crossroads of America College Showcase, starting on April 23rd. Then, we'll be in Colorado for the REAL Colorado Cup which begins on May 28th. Finally, we'll compete in the Chicago Inter Soccer Showcase starting on July 9th.
Most recently, I completed my junior season at Watertown-Mayer High School. We finished with the best record in school history (11-2-1), also getting to the section finals, which had never been done before. Additionally, we placed second in our conference, again the first time a Royals soccer team had placed that high. I am the starting left-back for Varsity and one of three team captains. I started playing Varsity when I was in 8th grade, suffered an ACL injury just before my freshman year, and returned to be the starting left back on Varsity in 10th grade.
As for academics, I have a strong interest in environmental science and political science for my desired majors. Not only am I passionate about the environment and the challenges it faces, but I hope to influence environmental legislation created by our government so we can create a more sustainable and stable world. This spring I finished my junior year at Watertown-Mayer HS, during which I kept up a 4.0 GPA. I also took the ACT this past winter/spring and scored a 31.
During the lock-down from COVID-19, I had to adjust my training to keep up with the changing rules. I completed lots of Facebook Live training sessions through my club, as well as found extra drills online to compensate for the lack of in-person practices. Additionally, I organized small group trainings with a few girls from my club team to work on skills that are hard to improve individually. Quarantine tested my self-motivation in ways it's never been tested before because there were many days where my inspiration ran out and I had to be more disciplined in training.
I'm honored that you are taking the time to review my information and skills, and I would be happy to talk with you further about what I can bring to your program and see if we are a good fit. You can also contact my club and high school coaches, as they can speak to my character and skills.
I've linked my high school game schedule below (#1) if you're interested in watching a game of mine. All home games will be live-streamed as well, and that link is number two down below.
