Hello, my name is Veronica Nieves. I am currently going into my junior year at ( FRHSD) Howell High School in Howell, NJ. I am a team player, a leader, I am coachable, and I am very excited about what my future holds for me. This year I was named Shore Conference Ambassador for Howell High School and I can’t wait to represent my school and my teammates.
I have been playing soccer since I was 6. My early experience with soccer made me fall in love with it, it was competitive at an early age, since I played with the boys team for two years.
As I grew and became older, I joined an all girls soccer team that was a travel team- Howell United Storm. I played with this team for many years. We won many tournaments: MOSA CUP, EDP League, and yearly sand tournaments. I was loyal to the team and to the coach, Coach Rob Hill. We played together until last season 2024, unfortunately due to players being on multiple teams and teammates moving the coach decided it would be the last season for Howell United Storm. As a Junior, I am on the girls Varsity Team and play three positions- forward, attacking mid, and outside back. I have played these 3 positions for years.
My love for sports is immense, for soccer and basketball. I play soccer, but I also play basketball and have been on many travel teams: AAU TEAMS, Jersey Shore Pride, Travel teams, and Exodus EYBL program endorsed by Nike. For many years I have played both sports, I played competitive ball for many years and I still continued with my academics/ education career receiving: Honor Roll and High Honor Roll throughout Middle School and thus far in High School as well.
My ultimate goal is to play soccer at a university well known for their soccer program. I know that to accomplish this goal one must be extremely dedicated on and off the pitch. I truly believe that the type of training, experiences, and sacrifices that I've had in my life so far have transformed me into a talented soccer player that would make for a good candidate at a prestigious university with an established soccer program.
Some feedback received from my current and previous coaches based on my performance include:
1 Hard working- Always keeps moving looking for ways to create plays (intercepts when possible).
2 Adaptability- Able to adapt quickly based on the circumstance taking place on the pitch. Is able to play multiple positions at highly competitive level.
3 Resilient- Shows great character when the team is losing and motivates her team.
4 Competitive- High competitive drive / wants to win. Strong desire to make a difference, known as a leader with all her teammates.
5 Game Awareness and Decision Making- ability to read the game based on tactical understanding of opponent and teammate.
6 Ball Control- Comfortable moving the ball into spaces during high intensity situations.
7 Speed- Explosive, high speed player with good ability in changing the direction of speed.
I look forward to growing as a valuable player at your University and meeting all the coaches and the athletic supporting staff.
