Hi! My name is Samantha Henry and I am 16 years old. I am the oldest of 2 in my hometown, Shrewsbury. I am honored to say I get my athletic ability from my dad. My Dad played D1 at Iona College starting all 4 years. He was asked to play on a minor league team, Connecticut Wolves, but decided to decline due to family circumstances. My parents raised me to be a competitive, respectable, and kind young girl. My parents never made secluded to one sport only. They let me play as many as I wanted, to find what I liked the most, and that is soccer! Since that day, I aspire to be better than I was the day before. It was an escape from school. Before moving to Shrewsbury, I was raised in a very nice town, but not the best education. Unforutanely, that didn't help me in the future, having my family move to where I am today- Shrewsbury. I have improved so much since I have moved. I am so hard on myself about grades and testing, soccer has always been something to get my mind off school things. I have played soccer since I was 4 years old and got serious to play when I was about 15 years old. I play for Cedar Stars Monmouth 2006 NL team as an an outside right back along as left, target, and right forward. I attend Red Bank Regional in Little Silver, New Jersey and play on the High School varsity soccer and lacrosse team. I start as a left midfielder then move to whatever position my coach needs me. I make the most of my times on and off the field. I want my teammates to know that if they have any questions or need help, I am here to answer. I make practice fun but take things serious when it needs to be. I reassure them that I am there for them whether it be on and off the field, creating a better bond when we play as one. As well as building a relationship with my teammates, my coach is even better. Both my club and high school coach, I have bonded with not only soccer. They feel comfortable to use me for drills and ask me how I think we need to improve throughout the game. As much as my athletic career is important to me, my academic career matters the most. Since I was little I have always wanted to help people no matter what. And I think that has to do with the effect of me wanting to be a Nurse. In high school, I do take medical classes. I am not the strongest person when it comes to tests, but that doesn't stop me from overcoming my challenges. I don't easily give up, I will find the answer. This does benefit me on and off the field. I will fight as much as I can if I lose the ball. I will back up my teammates when they need it. I will never go into a fight that I have not fought my hardest in.
