My name is Kellie Skofstad. I'm going to be a senior at Gladstone High School. Soccer has been a part of my life since I was able to walk. For the 14 years I have been playing I have created amazing bonds with my fellow teammates and coaches. Growing up in a small town I have learned to be able to mesh well with just about anyone, and have been able to keep my head on straight throughout my whole soccer career. Every team I have been on I was always one of the first ones to the practice just getting warmed up for the vigorous practice that laid a head. My favorite position has always been in defense it just comes completely natural and consists of the biggest adernaline rush ever. To give you a more physical look at me I'm 5'6" 140lbs and toned. I have never ran the 40 yrd dash but to give you a perspective on my speed I can run the 100 meter dash 13.03 seconds. For the past four years I have started and played center defender/sweeper on my High School soccer team. I have earned all league honors for my Freshmen year I was honorable mention All-League, Sophomore year I was first team All-League, and Junior year I was first team All-League along with Defensive Player of the Year All-League. My most memorable moment on my team was my Junior year when we won the class 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A State Championship game. In my previous years we had lost to the eventual State Champions twice; Third time was the charm for us in this case. I would love to go on and play for a college team and get the experience and a feel for what the college level is all about. I know tons of people say they have a passion for soccer, but when I say it, I genuinely and sincerely mean it without a bit of uncertainty. The type of school that I'm hoping to play for is at a D1,D2,or D3 level. I would perfer something on the West Coast or near the West Coast because I would like to not travel to far from home, but far enough to where I can get away. I can say in all honesty that I would be able to adapt anywhere with in that geographic region easily, and it wouldn't matter how many students go to the school just as long as I can build strong relationships with my fellow teammates and peers. When I venture out to college I want to pursue a career in teaching. I have always loved working with kids and feel a special connection to them. My mom works with kids who need extra attention (Autism or Aspergers), and I have seen some of the kids she works with and they just melted my heart. When I saw the kids I felt as though I was destined to work with them and give them and their parents the happiness any other kid deserves. The past coaches I have had inspired me to become one in the future, I believe coaching is one of the hardest jobs. You have to be able to adapt to all sorts of players shy, aggressive, unruly, ect... Sports will always be apart of my life no matter what, which is why I want to minor or major in physical education as well. A major goal for me would be to play on a team that isn't one player based, I have been on one of those before and it's not fun. It would be wonderful to play as a freshman and get to start sometimes, but I do realize that there are more experienced players on the team who have been playing longer. I don't expect to start just on my stats; I know I need to work hard to earn a position or place on a team. Finally I would like to say that I would be an excellent asset to any Womens Soccer Program that would take the time to recruit me. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my Personal Statement, and I hope to hear from some of you soon.
Sincerely,
Kellie Skofstad
