Hello, my name is Sera Barbato. I started participating in track during my 8th-grade year (2023) of middle school at Veterans Memorial Middle School, where I attended county competitions. However, I have been playing sports since I was 4 years old. I immediately fell in love with the track. When I started throwing in track, I threw the Shot Put and Discus, and then joined both events on my new High school varsity Team. Ever since I started, I have always pushed myself during practice and outside of practice to get better, in hopes that I will eventually get to throw at a collegiate level. Recently I tore my hamstring and had a split in my ACL on my left leg and I have tendonitis on my right with a complete ACL tear, which caused/causing me to miss out on a major opportunity to go to PACC during my freshman year track season and did not get to accomplish my many goals. Despite no longer being able to throw with all my skill, I continued to show up to every practice and meet to not only be able to support and cheer on my teammates but also to still compete. With being in my sophomore year, my main focus is on recovery (which is going very good) so I can be back for my 3rd year of track. I plan on doing everything I am cleared to do to be able to prepare myself for the upcoming season, so I can come back stronger than before.
Along with throwing shot and discus at my high school, I also manage Boys Soccer and play Rugby. I am also a part of the Yearbook, going to all sports games to show my support for all our school's athletes. Watching and being a part of all these sports has taught me responsibility and time management. It has also taught me how to work with a team, but not only one team. I have learned how to adapt, work with new people, and communicate with others better.
In the future, I hope to pursue a career in either Physical Therapy, Sports Psychology, or Sports Management. As of right now, I plan on majoring in Psychology, and my minor is Sports Management. Outside of school and sports, I am a member of the Morgan’s Message, Key Club, Kids for Kids, Leo Club, Yearbook, Best Buddies, Horticulture, Drama, Choirs, Newspaper, and a costumes Manager for school plays. I can't wait for the next years of track. Thank you!!
