Melissa Hutchens '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Melissa Lillian Hope Hutchens “Lilly” for short!

    I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old. I have always loved soccer but I had no idea how much I did until I made allstars for a higher age division then what  I was in when I was 10 years old. I played and started on a co-ed 12u all star team. The experience boosted my confidence and I continued playing in an age division higher than my own all throughout my recreational career. I then began Futsol and for many years my team won several tournaments. I decided I wanted to pursue the  sport I love to the highest level. I then tried out for Middle school soccer when I was in 7th grade.This was also a Co-ed team because this was all that was offered in my small community. I started as forward both years. In 7th grade I was awarded the Tiger award for being a team player, communication and for always having a positive attitude.I had 24 assists that season and 7 goals. My 8th grade year I was awarded the MVP of the team, not only for my assists and goals but because I am a team player. My 8th grade year I was invited to play for a club team an hour away from my community. I have been playing as a wing for Roger LaPlante out of LIncoln County Futbol Club going on 4 years now. This is including state league where we were state finalists in 2017. My Freshman year I was awarded All District team 2 and Most Value offensive player. I unfortunately was injured my sophomore year, but I am now a Junior and training weekly with weights and with two different player development programs.

    Although Soccer is my life and passion, school is the most important to me.I have managed to maintain straight A's since 6th grade and was top 7 out of 10 academically my 8th grade year, I was also awarded Mrs Ethridge Elementary school, for positive behavior, willing to help and being a leader for my school.  I have been taking Honors classes the last three years in highschool. I’m a member of talent search at high school and Student Government. I am a member of the 100 club for academics and the National Honors Society. I am maintaining a 4.0 including dual enrollment at our community college. I am very Interested in Sports Medicine and plan to job shadow our school Athletic Trainer the next two years.  I plan to Major in Sports Medicine and continue my education with a masters degree. I hope to one day work with college level, maybe even pro athletes.

    As a soccer player I have learned many lessons so far in my life. I enjoy  the speed and looking for every option to succeed on the field and in life. I always give 100% on and off the field and I never give up. I push and strive to become greater, and better at my sport. So I am always looking for suggestions, training, and videos to further my soccer knowledge. My dream is to play for a University, and continue my career in life and soccer. I am dedicated to this sport and my education and will not let me team- mates and coaches down. I look forward to my future and to all the new experiences that lay ahead of me.
