Mary Carroll High School Academic Challenge Team Captain
ActivitiesFreshman through Senior year I participated in Los Emperadores- Spanish National Honor Society and the Class Councils.
Junior Year, I was inducted into NHS and into the Coronet Club of Corpus Christi. With Coronet Club, I helped with a Philanthropy Project where we helped at a 5K run that aimed at raising money to raise awareness and help end Sex Trafficking in the area. For NHS year we sorted Food at the Food Bank, participated in Beach Clean-ups, helped with Local park Clean-ups, and helped with 5K Runs supporting local non-profit organizations. Senior year I applied, was interviewed, and anonymously selected as NHS President by the secret Faculty Council. Due to the pandemic, we had to be creative in how we would give to others. For this reason, I established a Peer tutoring program via Zoom where NHS officers would help fellow students with any challenges they were facing with their academic courses. Us, officers, took turns twice a week logging on to help others and are still going strong doing what we can in this everchanging school year.
CCISD Superintendent Student Ambassador Council Representative- (application process & was selected by my principal) We met to give input about student issues. We assisted at District Events & helped depts. where needed such as assisting the Homeless Support Dept. with preparing meal packages for families & students facing hardships.
Academic Challenge Team Captain- prepared and studied for academic competitions, recruited new team members for Junior year after all other members graduated (I was the only Female on the Freshman and Sophomore teams of all male Seniors.) I helped other team members learn the strategies of the competition and tried to help them prepare to be filmed by our local tv station. It was hard to recruit students because many did not want to be on television, but I was able to get enough team members and we did pretty well. I impressed myself with how much faster I was at the buzzer and how my confidence grew year after year.
