Hi, I am Abigail Hathaway Lewis! I was born in Boston but have been a resident of Manassas, VA for the past 16 years! I attend Brentsville District High School where I am a senior. My love for soccer has been a journey that began when I was 5 years old. I loved watching the greats of the sports like Abby Wambach and Mia Hamm. Their performance on the field inspired me to become the best player I can be. Having attended Abby Wambach’s summer camp, I learned that practice is the foundation that ensures long term success when playing a sport.
Soccer has provided me the platform to overcome my shy, reserved and timid child personality and instilled the confidence, the drive to excel and become a leader both on and off the field. Since the age of 6, I have been the captain of my recreational, travel and school teams as selected by both my respective coaches and teammates. I search for the most competitive settings to ensure I continually enhance my play on the field. Soccer has not only enabled me to have success on the field but also served as a great foundation for my academics. I left my former school so that I could pursue a Cambridge Degree which enables me to be academically challenged. In two years, I lettered as a freshman, obtained my CPR certificate, and have been recognized by Brentsville High School as a peer leader and will be a peer leader/mentor for incoming freshman for the third year in a row. Furthermore, I was one of only 26 students to attend the Brentsville High School Leadership Conference at George Mason University. I continue to strive to be the best teammate, student and local resident to those around me. I believe giving back is paramount. As my coaches will say, “Abby makes those around her a better player!” This not only reveals my love of team but also my desire to lead by example in all I do! I was just nominated by my teammates and coaches to be the only Junior as a Captain for the 2019-2020 Varsity Season and I am the only returning Captain this year. My love of the game expanded when I obtained my Referee license. In 2020, I am one of 5 players to serve on the VSA Council Board. We serve as Ambassadors and set, review and initiate standards for the entire league. I have the ability to educate younger players and install the love of soccer I possess. I continue to enhance my game, train and realize that leading a team must not only includes talent but passion, love and desire of team above all else!
When I am not on the field, I have a strong passion for medicine and travel! I just completed 160 hours of volunteering at Novant Hospital in Manassas, Virginia for their Teen Summer Intern Program. What was to be only a two week program, I turned into an eight week program! I was recognized for my devotion to clients, leadership and the ability to adapt to any situation. I became the Team Leader and will continue to donate 8 hours/week in the trauma unit until I graduate. Next summer, I was selected to be the Leader of the program and will donate over 100 hours as I pursue the field I love.
Soccer has enabled me to meet my second family and I look forward to pursuing that at the collegiate level!
