Hello! My name is Sylvi Shonka and I am a part of the class of 2022 at Laurel High School in Viroqua, Wisconsin. I have played soccer for ten years and am looking to continue my career in college.
Viroqua is a small town that boasts its own growing club team, Driftless United Futbol. I play for the Driftless United varsity coed team. This spring I will play on our club’s first varsity girls team. I serve on the board of directors for Driftless United and enjoy coaching youth camps in the summer. For the past two years, I have also trained and played summer competitive soccer with Mississippi Valley Storm in La Crescent, Minnesota. This summer I will join the U19 League One team. I have enjoyed the opportunity to play on those high-level girls’ teams. My strengths on the field are a strong shot, an accurate pass, aggressive body position, and positive leadership.
I am a hard worker and a leader, I enjoy facing challenges and succeeding with my teammates on the pitch, in the classroom, and also on the ice. I have played ice hockey for eight years, which has helped me grow as a soccer player since they are similar in many ways. I believe myself to be very coachable and receptive to critique, and I place a lot of importance on communication. I am looking for a liberal arts college but I am also open to other options. I am undecided on what I will major in, but psychology, sociology, Spanish, environmental studies, and outdoor education are a few options that I have in mind.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me!
