Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are getting a degree, improving my swimming, and being a good teammate and friend to all those around me.
I have played sports my entire life, and have found so much joy in doing so, I did soccer for 5 years, basketball for 8 and swim for 11 years. Having a background of all these different sports really gives me an appreciation for hard work and dedication. I believe my passion for swimming is what does and will continue to help me succeed. I first joined a rec swim team when I was five, and absolutely hated it! But by the time I was 7 it had grown on me, and I was breaking league records for my age group. At 10 years old I joined my first club team, and have been swimming competitively ever since. This high school season, my relay and I placed in the top 25 at states, and broke our school record.
Other than swimming, I have a passion for helping people, and I believe that's my purpose in life. I would like to incorporate this passion into my education, and pursue a career in the medical field. In school, I am an academic support/peer tutor and help kids who struggle with grades, and I absolutely love it. I am also a part of a club called med life and hope to go on a mission trip to Peru this summer and volunteer in a hospital. It is very important to me that I find a school where I can balance my passion for swim and school, as education is very important to me.
Something that sets me aside from others is my ability to get along with people. On my club team, I would consider myself a leader, as I plan team bonding events, encourage my teammates, and always have a positive attitude. I always try my best to engage with younger swimmers on my team, whether it is through encouragement, advice, or simply helping them. I take time to thank parents, timers, officials, and my coaches every meet, as I know without their support and help, we would not be able to enjoy this amazing sport.
