Hi. My name is Alexa Carrillo and I swim for the New Canaan YMCA Caimans in New Canaan, CT as well as the New Canaan High School varsity swim team. Having been swimming for about nine years now, has taught me what it's like to be on a team, how to deal with defeat, and what it takes to achieve my goals. I have also learned a lot about myself, especially as an athlete. I am hardworking and push myself past my limits while racing the people in the lanes next to me during a tough set. I always remind myself to keep my technique together when it begins to fall apart in the middle of the season. I absolutely love being in the water and with my teammates. Although practices might not be the most fun, my commitment to my goals helps me to never give up and stay focused. I tend to carry over the same work habits from swimming into my school work. I work very hard in school because I know academics play a crucial role in the college process, especially recruiting. I am currently in honors classes and AP classes, as a junior. Overall, I am constantly motivated and determined to work hard in order to help my team and achieve my goals. I enjoy my sport and would love being given the opportunity to further pursue it in college.
