Personal Statement
I began swimming by taking lessons at a YMCA in the third grade, and ever since have loved both the water, and the people I’ve met through swimming. As a military kid, I have been a part of many different teams as we move around quite often, and feel this has greatly impacted my life. I’ve practiced and competed under many coaches with different coaching styles and due to this have expanded my knowledge of the technical aspects involved in swimming. I’ve had to leave many teams behind, but doing so has made me both a stronger individual and better at becoming a great asset to any team I’m included on. For instance, freshman year I was able to come to a new place and help my team have the best season they’ve had in the entire history of that team, break records, become one of the top three point earners, and even get a varsity letter. After moving back to Georgia as a sophomore and being on both my original club team as well as a new high school team, I have accomplished much of what I have always hoped for. I’ve been in three different state championships in the past year, one of them being high school states, have helped break more team records, was on the podium at states for my school for the first time in 30 years, and hope to earn my second varsity letter. In the future, I hope to go to a college or university that has a music/theater minor or major and compete on their team to help them achieve their goals as well as have the school help me reach mine.
