Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Lauren Miedema. I've been swimming since I was 9 years old, on my local U.S.A club team (West Michigan Swimmers) and on Unity Christian High School's team. I started swimming because my swim lesson instructor suggested to my parents that I join a swim team. This scared me a little bit at first because I had never been on a team before and I didn't know what to expect, but as soon as I started I loved it. My team was so welcoming and they push me every day to get better. Through swimming I have learned a lot about myself. For example, I learned that I am a lot tougher than I thought I was. I realized through hard practices and races that I can do hard things, even when it seems impossible at the time.
So far in high school I have been a Michigan Division 3 State qualifier in my Freshman,Sophomore, and Junior seasons, and I have State qualifying times in my Senior season. I've qualified for all conference the past 2 seasons, and have been able to set the school record in the 100 fly, 200 free, and 500 free. In the class room, I have a 3.9 GPA and am taking A.P courses, and higher level math and language classes. After high school I'm hoping to pursue something in the medical field and continuing to learn Spanish and be able to use it in my career.
After high school, I would like to join a college swim team pushes each other to get better, where I can be a valuable member of the team, and that has a great team dynamic.
I'm very excited to see what the future holds both in school and in the pool.
