Being a two sport athlete I feel at times that I do nothing but eat, sleep, and go to practice. This became my routine from a very young age, and although it was fun to begin with, there came a time when I was about 14 years old when I did not know if I wanted to continue down this path. I envied my friends who seemed to always have a fun social event planned, when most of the time I was not available to join. This attitude changed drastically when I entered high school, and was a part of the varsity swim team and softball team for the school. It was these teams that made me realize how lucky I was to be a part of such incredible groups of people with the same passions as me. I began to understand that swimming and playing softball for the Lady Panthers was a privilege I needed to cherish. The coaches and players on these teams taught me what it meant to be part of something so much larger than myself, and what it meant to wear my uniform with pride.
Now that I can thank my high school coaches for the experiences they have given me, I know that college will offer me a new journey into academics and athletics. This journey will help me develop a new pride in myself and in my school, and I cannot wait for it to begin. My goal is to receive a good education in the field of Exercise Science that could give me the foundation I need for Physical Therapy school. Along with getting an education, I would like to compete on a highly competitive swim team. I believe my assets of a strong work ethic, good time management skills, and the drive and determination it takes to be a student athlete help make me a good candidate for a women’s swim program at a college that I could also succeed academically at.
